Orbit Culture @ Underworld, London 2024
And there we have it! The first sold-out UK run has come to a close. Seeing their last show at the infamous Underworld was nothing but chaos at its finest. Primitive and, not to mention, sweltering. It was pretty funny to be ‘blessed’ with Richard Hansson’s hair whips on my head while headbanging (I believe it wasn’t intentional but amusing nonetheless). Even seeing him join with The Big Smoke crowd to Alienated was a first on the tour! So, we’ll see if this becomes regular while touring Europe & Scandinavia. That moment even landed as main image with my friends in Metal Hammer so, I can say mission complete! Witnessing the band have great banter and play iconic melodic death metal music in our capital city was delightful. Oh, not to mention that I’m now called a “trooper with two cameras and a sprained ankle!” from many people in the crowd. In conclusion, I’ve experienced four UK different shows with individual lighting scenarios and crowds. Two venues with barriers and two without. Two gigs that I’m familiar with and two for the first time. All of this accumulates to how far Orbit Culture have come since discovering them live on October 2019 to now headlining five major UK clubs. Their fire was massive then, it is now starting to engulf the atmosphere.
A huge high five is in order to all involved - from the PR, to the promoters and their tight-knit crew for making these concerts finally happen. My blog posts have reached as far back as USA/Canada, mainland Europe, all corners of the the UK, Scandinavia and even landed in Japan. Let’s see if these hit Australia & New Zealand as their demand is huge! A big cheers to all who have shared, private messaged and commented on my photography, including the venues, the fans and new found friends.
And to the band - thank you. They probably wouldn’t want to see my face again after the four nights! But all joking aside… thank you for changing my life with your music since that cold October pre-pandemic evening. I’m honoured that I got to document four unique intimate settings. We may not see this happen again. You’re going to even bigger places after the end of 2024!
Thank you for all of your love and support on my ‘mini tour’. This was a personal project that was done with an extremely tight budget and no employment to fall back on. My main goal was to show my admiration for the band headlining British soil for the first time and to garner further reach in other parts of the world with my live photography (this has given me good practice to improve on future projects in areas I hadn’t covered). When the lads headline the USA/Canada, land Australia/NZ and Asia for the first time, we love to see it. We’ll be waiting.
You rule!
